Abaarso Tech Secondary School offers a unique teaching environment. We do not necessarily look for the same attributes in our teachers as our American counterparts. Applicants must have a Bachelors degree but do not need prior teaching experience or teaching certifications. In fact, some of our most successful teachers come in with no prior classroom experience. We value intelligent, hardworking, adaptable, and open-minded people.

Top 3 Reasons People Decide NOT to Work for Abaarso Tech:
1. Concerns about the Security Situation in Somaliland:
a. Abaarso Tech takes security concerns very seriously. AT teachers make use of police escorts and live in a guarded compound. However, it is important to understand the vast difference between security situations in Somaliland and Somalia. We enjoy the support and protection of the people of Somaliland and its government and security forces. Teachers typically feel very safe at Abaarso Tech (please see the testimonial section for more information).
2. Financial Limitations:
a. Abaarso Tech is a non-profit organization and the boarding school is a charitable enterprise. We are unable to pay teachers competitive salaries. Teachers must come here because they want to help build something special and teach gifted but needy children. Upon arrival teachers have virtually no expenses besides traveling during school breaks.
3. Concerns about living in a conservative Muslim society:
a. Somaliland is a conservative Muslim society. Alcohol is illegal and there are no bars or night clubs. Women in public must dress conservatively including covering their hair. No religions besides Islam are welcome in public.
